Update: Mother and Three Kids Displaced From Arson Fire

UPDATE: A woman and her three children were displaced from their home after the neighboring duplex unit caught fire early Tuesday morning. Donica Sweat told ABC 36 that she woke up to the smell of smoke coming in her home. She says when she went outside, she saw flames coming out of the neighboring unit and quickly got her kids out of the building.

Sweat says she's shocked by the news that someone set her building on fire. She says she's never known any issues coming from the vacant next door unit. Sweat says her and her children will stay with her mother for the next few days until her home is cleaned and power is restored.

UPDATE:
Lexington Fire Investigators say they have determined the cause of the fire to be intentionally set. They ask anyone with any information to contact the Fire Investigations Bureau at (859) 231-5672, or leave a tip at arsontips@lexingtonky.gov.

Lexington firefighters battled flames and frigid cold temperatures while fighting a house fire in the 300 block of Wilson Street Tuesday morning.

Fire officials say they received multiple 911 calls for smoke and flames shooting out of a second story window around 5:25 a.m. That prompted fire dispatchers to send a full structure fire response, immediately sending 12 trucks to the scene.

According to fire officials, first arriving crews reported heavy fire on the second floor and began putting water on the fire.

As crews battled the fire, they also dealt with frigid morning temperatures. The cold wasn't only uncomfortable to work in, it also caused standing water on the roads and sidewalks to freeze, causing slippery conditions.

Fire officials say there were no injuries reported.
