The Morgan County High School Football Team has new fuel to succeed this year.

After having only one winning season between 2005 and 2011, the team has won its first five games this year.

Above the football field remains the destruction from the West Liberty Tornado that devastated the community in March.

The tornado ripped up the football field too – leaving the school uncertain if there would even be a football season this year.

Coach Brian Turner says the team has pushed through a lot of adversity this year.

Turner says he has done less this year for pre-game speeches because the team is motivated on their own.

"Our kids have a lot to play for this year," he adds. "We feel like the spotlight has been on our team."

Right now the team has won five games. But a goal Turner has for the team is to win nine games – something that’s never been done in Morgan County history.

“Our spirit hasn't changed,” Turner said. “We just had to dig deep and show the character and perseverance we're made of.”
