The Moore Science Building has been closed on the Eastern Kentucky University campus, due to a mercury spill.

Academic Affairs is making arrangements to reschedule finals that are scheduled for that building.  More information will be provided in a later notification.

At approximately 12:20 pm, while moving equipment from the Moore Science Building to the New Science Building, a mercury leak was discovered on the floor in room 108.  Mercury was traced from room 108 to an elevator in the northeast corner of the building.  The elevator went to a loading dock where the leaking equipment was placed on a contracted moving truck.

The response team is assessing the scope of the spill, securing the area, setting up for decontamination, and engaging a third party environmental vendor to conduct all appropriate and prudent environment assessments .  EKU will provide all environmental notifications required by applicable regulations.

If you were on the first floor of the Moore Building during that time and left the building, please contact the EKU Police Department at (859) 622-1111.
