University of Kentucky Police arrested three men in connection to an attempted armed robbery on UK’s campus Monday night.
According to police, the victim was at UK’s Main Building off Administration Drive around 10:30 p.m. when three men came up and tried to rob the victim.
UK Police quickly sent a campus-wide alert to students, notifying them that an attempted armed robbery had occurred and to avoid the area while police investigated.
While officers were investigating, UK police officers spotted three men matching the description of the suspects walking along South Upper Street.
Both UK and Lexington Police questioned the three men, eventually arresting them.
Lexington Police officers tell ABC 36 that they also assisted UK Police in a search for the gun used during the robbery. It wasn't found on any of the three men that were arrested.
This is the second time in the past two days that police on a university campus in Central Kentucky have had to respond to an armed robbery report.
On Sunday night, Eastern Kentucky University Police responded to an armed robbery at Clay Hall, a campus dormitory. An EKU spokesperson told ABC 36 that two people armed with guns robbed three others inside of a dorm room.
Police wouldn’t give specifics on exactly what was stolen in the EKU armed robbery, or if the victims and robbers may have previously known each other.
UK Police and Lexington Police are not commenting on whether they believe the attempted robbery at UK and the robbery at EKU are related.
The investigation is on-going by both university police departments.
