A Whitley County Volunteer Fire Fighter passed away on Sunday from injuries he sustained during fire.

On August 30th Arlie “Pooh” Hill saw flames coming from his neighbor’s home and took action.

“Pooh” as his friends called him; was off duty but thought there was a child inside the home.

Without thinking and pure instinct Pooh ran inside the home to save a life.

Once he was inside the fire slammed the door behind Pooh and trapped him inside.

Friends and family could hear the screams of him trying to get out.

Firefighters were able to eventually get him out. He had 2nd degree burns on over 90% of his body with his chest being 3rd degree burns.

Pooh battled it out until his last breath.

On Sunday he passed away because of his injuries that he sustained on that heroic day.

By the request of the family: Tony Miller with W.C. Fire Dept. has been dedicated as coordinator for all donations.
