It was an outcome that many people had predicted for months, but now it's official: Mitch McConnell and Alison Grimes will battle it out for a seat in the U.S. Senate in November.

Republican challenger Matt Bevin had questioned McConnell's conservatism during the campaign, calling him a "liberal."

Voters responded in McConnell's favor, however, as he moves forward to November's general election.

McConnell is seeking his sixth term in office, but will have to go up against first-term Secretary of State Alison Grimes.

Grimes has focused her campaign on jobs and raising the federal minimum wage.

McConnell, on the other hand, has been running on his experience, leadership and track record.
