Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says 2012 will be a big year for building a "Great American City."

He delivered the 'State of the Merged Government' Tuesday morning.

The speech helps the community learn more about the city's plans for the new year.

The mayor says Lexington will focus on creating good jobs and an efficient government.

The city will get a final report on plans to reinvent Rupp on January 31st.

And Gray says the new designs will build upon the arena's authentic history.

"It peels away the industrial outer skin of the arena and replaces it with glass to encourage the energy flow into an outdoor plaza where contemporary, modern electronic video screens will engage fans outside and audiences," says Gray.

The Mayor also spoke about revamping the District.

He believes an active and vibrant downtown will help preserve the Bluegrass and its "world-class rural landscape."
