Matt Bevin To Face Sen. McConnell In Senate Race

Tea Party conservative Matt Bevin announced that he will run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. McConnell.
Louisville businessman and Tea Party conservative Matt Bevin announced Wednesday in Frankfort that he will run for U.S. Senate against Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Bevin grew up in New Hampshire before attending Washington and Lee University in Virginia with a four-year ROTC scholarship.

He spent 4 years on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Army.

Bevin and his family made the move to Kentucky in 1999.

Most recently, Bevin says he helped turn around a bell manufacturing business run by his family since 1832.

Bevin and his wife, Glenna, live in Louisville with their nine kids. Four of the their children were adopted from Ethiopia.

Stephen Voss, a political science professor at the University of Kentucky says a challenger from a candidate's own party has advantages and disadvantages.

Voss says it can be difficult to unite a party after an ugly primary battle.
