An elementary school in Scott County was put on lockdown Friday afternoon after a teacher thought she heard gunfire, according to officials.

Deputies were called to Mason Elementary and they searched the building, but were unable to find any signs of a shooting.

Upon further investigation, they learned an RV had driven past the school and apparently backfired, causing the confusion.

Officers said the lockdown lasted between 15 to 20 minutes before classes resumed as normal.
