A man allegedly set his girlfriend’s apartment on fire late Monday night.

It happened at the Westwood Apartments on Westwood Drive in Winchester.

Officials said emergency crews had responded to a medical call nearby. We’re told on the way to the hospital, their patient confessed to setting his girlfriend’s apartment on fire.

When firefighters arrived at the apartment complex, they found the fire in an upstairs unit. They said it was mainly contained to a mattress in the bedroom.

The woman who lives there wasn’t home at the time.

Officials said her apartment, as well as the one underneath it, sustained some serious water damage when crews were putting out the flames.

The names of those involved have not been released.

We’re told the suspect is still in the hospital, but he could face charges for arson, among other things.
