The Jessamine County Animal Shelter says a man has been charged with animal cruelty after coming forward claiming to be the owner of the chihuahua that was found in a Nicholasville dumpster last week.

The shelter says Franklin May came to them last Wednesday and said he was the owner of the small dog. Animal Control says they were able to confirm that may was in fact the chihuahua's owner. After animal control reviewed evidence from the scene, they say charged May with animal cruelty.
