A man Lexington Police say was involved in a toddler shooting pleaded not guilty Monday.

19-year-old Lavonne Smith made the plea during a court appearance over closed circuit television from jail.

Police say Smith tried to hide the gun that was used when a 4-year-old accidentally shot his 2-year-old cousin in the arm.

Smith was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.

The toddler was taken to UK Hospital but is expected to be okay.
