A man was arrested after police said he was caught trying to break into a Lexington gas station around 6 a.m. Sunday.

Police responded to a report of a man trying to break in to the Gulf Gas Station on Waller Avenue through a vent on the roof.

When they arrived, they said they found Jeremiah Potter, 30, trying to flee the scene.

According to court documents, police found a screwdriver and a flashlight when Potter gave officers permission to search his pockets.

Police said they also found an insurance card from a vehicle that had been broken into, as well as a card and a cell phone that were not his.

Potter is charged with attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools and receiving stolen property.

He also faces drug charges after police said he was carrying drug paraphernalia and pills. Police said some of those pills were hidden inside a fake Dr. Pepper can that was discovered by jail officials.

Potter is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Monday.
