Police have arrested a man in Madison County on a string of charges in a stolen vehicle investigation.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office received an Attempt to Locate on a stolen vehicle just coming to Madison County from Garrard County on Ky52 West (Lancaster Road). Deputy Tyler Cole was near Lancaster Road at the time of the call and started toward the Madison/Garrard County Line. Deputy Cole passed the vehicle inbound toward Richmond on Lancaster Rd and turned on it. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the vehicle fled onto Ky876 (Eastern By-Pass) and traveled west until shortly before the Four Mile Road intersection where the suspect vehicle stalled.

When an officer approached the vehicle, police say the suspect managed to restart the vehicle and fled again turning inbound on Four Mile Avenue toward downtown Richmond. The vehicle lost control at the Four Mile Avenue railroad crossing leaving the road and hanging up on the railroad tracks. Police say the suspect exited the vehicle, fled on foot and was later located in the Turpin Funeral Home Parking Lot on North 2nd Street by assisting Richmond Police Patrol Units.

The suspect is identified as Reginald Branch of Lexington. He is charged with several offenses, including fleeing and evading, wanton endangerment, reckless driving, and disregarding a traffic light.

Police say the vehicle was in fact not registered to Branch, but it was not entered as a stolen vehicle and no stolen charges were filed.

After apprehension, police say Branch gave false identification to authorities even after several warnings and after being positively identified, he was additionally charged with giving an officer a false name or address.

He was also served outstanding warrants for flagrant non support and persistent felony offender.  The suspect was lodged into the Madison County Detention Center.
