Man Accused In Charity Scam In London

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office said Wasyl Taran, 61, of Greenwood Lane, Indiana, was arrested Tuesday morning in London in a charity check scam case.

Investigators said Taran tried to scam a check valued at $575 from an individual, stating it would be used for a charity when that was not the case.

Investigators said the reported crime happened around 9:00 a.m. on KY 192.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office said Taran was charged with Theft By Deception over $500.

He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
