The entire Madison County School District will have the day off Wednesday for the Madison Central Boy's Basketball Sweet 16 Game.

District Administrators say they felt attendance would have been so low on Wednesday from parents taking their kids out of school, that they felt it was better just to cancel the day and make it  up  at the end of the school year.

Many parents in the District say they have no problem with all schools closing, but some say it puts a burden on them to arrange plans to have someone watch their kids, especially for parents who have to work.

The Madison County School District has canceled school three other times in the past for when one of their high school's reaches the state tournament.

Other districts across the state have taken similar measures for when their teams reach state, and are in close proximity to where the tournaments are being held.

Madison Central plays at Noon on Wednesday, March 6th at Rupp Arena.

Again I love how Sports is more important then education. I mean last I checked I think all but 1 Elementary school passed the test on education. So it doesn't surprise me that we would spend millions on a wasted sports program in the county and also cancel school for sports. If we really cared about education then sports would be like the Boyscouts and other programs be After school programs that are not funded by public/state/federal funds. They should be privately funded and kept out of the school, so that the money goes to where it matters, education.
