A killer tornado hit West Liberty one year ago.

It's a close-knit town of about 3,200 people nestled in the foothills of the Cumberland Mountains.

West Liberty was changed forever on March 2, 2012 when a tornado leveled entire sections of the town.

The twister was a mile wide with estimated winds of 140 mph.

A year later there are places in the heart of downtown that look like the twister hit yesterday.

The scars, both physical and emotional, run deep.

In all that day in Kentucky, 24 people were killed and more than 200 were injured.

In Morgan County, six people were killed and dozens were injured.

The County Judge-Executive estimates the damage at $250 million.

The National Weather Service says the tornado was one of four that hit parts of nine counties in that part of the state that day.

A tornado in Salyersville with estimated winds of 160 mph was on the ground for nearly 50 miles.

It killed two people in Salyersville and nearly destroyed what's known as 'Restaurant Row'.

More than a dozen businesses were destroyed, costing some 200 people their jobs.

In East Bernstadt in Laurel County, five people were killed when a tornado with estimated winds of 125 mph touched down and stayed down on the ground for some seven miles.

In all that day in Kentucky, 24 people were killed and more than 200 were injured.
