A London man was killed Friday afternoon after he lost control of his motorcycle in a curve and was thrown from the bike, according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said Curtis G. Smith, 41, of London, was northbound on KY 229, one mile south of London near the intersection of Hideaway Road, when he lost control of his motorcycle, ran off the road and crashed.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to county statistics, this was the 17th traffic fatality in Laurel County this year, which more than doubles the numbers from 2011.
