Local Company Donates Thousands Of Children's Books

Half-Price Books in Hamburg gave away nearly six thousand books to area non-profits.
For the past fourteen years, Half Price Books has been giving back to communities nationwide with the Half Pint Library Book Drive.  The company collects children's books and then hands them out to those in need.

"Any non-profit that comes in today is going to go away with a couple boxes of books. It allows us to bridge folks in the community, that's what I love about it.  Plus, giving books away is pretty fantastic," said Torry Harren, Half Price Books

More than six thousand books were given away at Tuesday's event...and it keeps growing every year.

Kate Guiliani is one of the people who stood in line to get a couple boxes of those free books.  She is helping organize the Once Upon A Story Free Book Festival on April 28th in Lexington to promote children's literacy.

"As I visited schools in Fayette County, I realized there was a much greater need than I had recognized initially. It's just very encouraging to me to see how we can do so much with so little...and how many companies--such as Half Price Books--are willing to chip in and help out and make this dream a reality for so many young children," she said.

Half-Price books will accept donations throughout the year so you still have a chance to drop off any books to help those in need.
