Library Book Found 185 Years Overdue

A book found inside the Jacobs Hall Museum in Danville was checked out in 1828 from the library at Centre College.
A student intern was doing a book inventory at the Jacobs Hall Museum when she came across a book checked out from Centre College in 1828.

The book is one volume in a set titled Ancient Civilizations by Charles Rollin and was returned to Centre College.

The book is described as being in fair condition with some water damage, but the pages can still be read.

A hand-written note dated July 1854 was also found inside.

It is unknown who wrote the note, but it says the person will no longer eat meat or gravy.

At the current rate of 10 cents a day in late fees over 185 years, the book would have a late fee of more than $6,500.
