Lextran might hit the brakes on one of its services. The “Jobs Bus,” which takes dozens of people to and from late night work shifts, is changing.
Jill Barnett said the Jobs Bus program started in 2006. Then in 2009 a Federal Grant helped fund the program. Barnet said that grant money won’t be available in the same capacity, so they might have to change the program.
“We're looking at options that we might have,” Barnett said. “Working with a contractor, with a van pool provider, or other adjustments that we can make to our schedules to try and preserve this service for these individuals.”
People waiting for the bus Wednesday night said this if the Jobs Bus stops operating, they don’t know how they will be able to get to work.
Lextran said the Jobs Bus that runs from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. services about 45 people every night.
Barnett added the Jobs Bus costs more to run than the other bus routes because it’s not a direct route and not as many people ride it when compared to the other buses.
