State Police said a Lexington woman died in a single vehicle crash Thursday afternoon along the Mountain Parkway.

Investigators said Mary A. Elrod, 62, was traveling westbound on the Parkway when her vehicle veered off the road and into the median.

State Police said her vehicle hit an emergency turn around in the median, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Elrod was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police said the accident happened just before 4:00 p.m. at the 35 mile marker in Powell County.

The accident remains under investigation.
