The public is invited to send Valentines to Veterans during the National Salute to Veteran Patients now through February 17, 2013.

Individuals or groups wishing to personally deliver their Valentine’s Day cards should contact the Lexington VA Medical Center's voluntary service office at 859-233-4511 ext. 5280 or ext. 4930.

The National Salute is observed annually during the week of Valentine’s Day as an expression of honor and appreciation to Veterans.

The nationally syndicated column started by Ann Landers, now called “Ask Annie,” has devoted a column to the National Salute, asking readers to send Valentine cards and letters to hospitalized Veterans at VA medical centers.

More than a million cards and letters are sent to VA patients each year during the National Salute.

“National Salute to Veteran Patients gives everyone a chance to remind Veterans their sacrifices are not forgotten,” says Martin Traxler, Acting Medical Center Director.

According to Traxler, National Salute is a great way for people to learn more about helping Veterans. “You can join our activities by scheduling a time to visit Veteran patients and deliver Valentine’s Day cards and letters,” says Traxler.  “It’s a great way to show appreciation and gratitude for our Nation’s patriots.”
