Lexington police said a thief left a trail of evidence behind while running from the scene Friday morning.

Police responded to the Speedway on Tates Creek Road just before 2 a.m. after an alarm went off.

When they got there, officers said they found the front glass door smashed in with a large rock.

They said they also found a path of stolen cigarettes leading out of the store.

They believe the thief had a car waiting on Old Tabor Road.

As of this writing, police are still searching for the suspect.
