Lexington Police Officer Keith Spears Pleads Guilty In Youth Referee Harassment Case

The Lexington police officer accused of harassing a 13 year-old soccer referee agrees to a plea deal.
Lexington Police Officer Keith Spears agreed to plead guilty after being accused of harassing a 13 year-old soccer referee in Scott County back in October.

Spears will pay 400 dollars in court fines and make a 750 dollar donation to the Kentucky Referee Association as part of the deal.

Spears was accused of harassing 13 year-old Nathaniel Rase during and after a soccer game Rase was officiating.

Rase's attorney said Spears confronted his client after the game and grabbed his arm.

Spears apologized to Rase and his family in court on Thursday before accepting the plea deal.

The Lexington Police Department's Internal Affairs division investigated this case and followed it through the court system in Scott County.

A police spokesperson said the police chief would decide Spears' fate within the department.
