Lexington police officers have a reason to celebrate, as their department beat out hundreds of other police forces to take the title of "Agency of the Year" for 2014.

The Agency of the Year Award is given by the National Citizens Police Academy, and is only presented to one police agency in the country.

The honor is given to the department who displays the most outstanding efforts in conducting a Citizens Police Academy program and promoting the CPA concept.

This marks the first year that Lexington Division of Police has won the "Agency of the Year" award. However, the Lexington Citizen's Police Academy has won best CPA numerous times; most recently in 2012 and 2013.

Residents who wish to participate in the CPA program can log on to Lexington's official website: lexingtonky.gov/police
