Lexington PD: Report of Fireworks Being Thrown Turns Out to Be Gunfire

Lexington Police were told after midnight Sunday morning that people may have been throwing fireworks at each other. According to officers, it was actually gunfire.

Police said the exchange took place near the Versailles Road and Alexandria Drive intersection, close to a Speedway.

When they arrived, they discovered a man had been shot in the chest, but said the injury was minor.

According to officers, the victim was sent to a nearby hospital and released a short time later.
