Lexington is launching the first round of more than 80 sewer improvement projects.

The work is part of a ten-year plan.

And this is a mandatory project for Lexington.

For years, big rains created overflows in the city and forced untreated sewage into Fayette County Creeks.

A federal court order requires Lexington to make improvements to stop the overflow.

Mayor Jim Gray says the changes will cost the city around $600 million.

The first three sewer projects to get underway include Bob O Link Drive, East Lake and Century Hills.
