Lexington Firefighters will never forget the date February 13th, 2004.

It was nine years ago Wednesday that Lieutenant Brenda Cowan was shot and killed, responding to a call in Lexington.

Lieutenant Cowan was honored with a wreath laying at the Firefighters' Memorial in downtown Lexington.

Firefighter Joe Best says, " I'm sure it means different things to different folks. What we hope to remind ourselves of when we placed it here, you know, sometimes the job requires to do it well, it requires a sacrifice beyond what folks would consider normal, and to remind the community that the Fire Department is here and looking out for them and sometimes that has a high cost associated with it."

The Fire Department calls this Remembrance Week because of Lieutenant Cowan and also Firefighter Chuck Williams.

He died February 17th, 1997 after falling through a floor after a fire set by an arsonist on Lexington's south side.
