Lexington Daycare Owner Arrested for Child Abuse

Police arrested the owner of Lexington daycare center on child abuse charges.
Police arrested the owner of Lexington daycare center on child abuse charges.

Officers said the abuse happened inside the Children’s Treehouse of Knowledge and was caught on cell phone video.

According to court documents, a young boy at the daycare center claims Sevola Marks gave him a friction burn on his arm, bent his fingers back until he said it hurt and pulled his arms back across his chest so he couldn’t breathe.

Marks was arrested Wednesday and charged with third degree criminal abuse of a child 12-years-old or younger.

An unnamed witness in the court documents said they have the abuse on tape.  Police aren’t releasing that video since this is an ongoing investigation but court papers said Marks denied doing anything wrong and said when she watched the cell phone video, she said it wasn’t a big deal.

According to the court papers, the boy said he wasn’t the only one at the daycare who was hurt.

Many parents who send their kids to the Children’s Treehouse of Knowledge said they’re shocked.  Some even pulled their kids out of daycare when they heard what was going on.

“It’s too many questions when it's my kids.  Those are my babies and you don't play with other people's children, so until we figure out what's going on there will be three absent,” said Sylvia Beach who took her three kids out of daycare for the day.

Marks was in court on Thursday for her arraignment.

The judge said she is not allowed to have any contact with the victim or the daycare.

Her attorney said there is nothing to these abuse claims.

The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services is also investigating.
