The new law would ban sale, possession and use of aerial fireworks in Lexington.

Smaller fireworks like sparklers, smoke bombs and fountains would still be allowed. And so would large firework displays, like Lexington's 4th of July event or after the Lexington Legends Games.

But everything else – sky rockets, roman candles, aeriel shell kits and more - would be banned.

Penalities for breaking this law are tighter too.

If caught illegally buying or setting off fireworks... that person would face a $250 to $1,000 fine.

And the penalty for illegally selling fireworks? A $2,000 fine and possible six months in jail.
