On Wednesday, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office announced its Winter Care Program is growing and will be holding a citywide coat drive.

Three areas businesses are helping with the collection: The Home Depot on Harrodsburg Road, which donated the bins for the coats; Chase Dry Cleaners on South Ashland Avenue, which will clean all of the donated coats before they're handed out; Republic Bank and Trust, which volunteered its five branches as drop off centers.

Those Republic Bank and Trust drop off sites include...

• Andover: 3098 Helmsdale Place

• Chevy Chase: 641 East Euclid Avenue

• Harrodsburg Road: 2401 Harrodsburg Road

• Perimeter: 651 Perimeter Drive

• Tates Creek: 3608 Walden Drive

The Sheriff's Office said it will also pick up coat donations upon request. Those interested in scheduling a time for pickup should call the Sheriff's Office at (859) 252-1771.

In addition to collecting coats, the Winter Care Program gives welfare checks to Lexington's needy and provides transportation to critical medical appointments in times of severe weather. It also offers prescription pickup for those unable to leave their homes when bad weather hits.
