Lexington Celebrates MLK Day And Inauguration

Hundreds gathered downtown to celebrate both the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the inauguration of President Barack Obama Monday morning.
Lexington's downtown filled with hundreds of marchers Monday morning.

People gathered to celebrate both President Barack Obama's inauguration and the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A parade began at 10 a.m., leading to the Lexington Center where a celebration was held with guest speakers and musicians.

"The inauguration, the election...it all shows that--working together--we can get a lot of great things accomplished. That's why it's significant," said Lexington Fire Department Chief Keith Jackson.

"Myself--being an example of the dream--and being able to be the chief of the Lexington fire department is because of the steps that he [Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.] took over 50 years ago."
