Lexington Businessman-Developer Donald Webb Dies

A giant in Lexington business and development has died.

Donald W. Webb died Friday of complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

He was 74.

Kerr Brothers is handling the funeral arrangements.

The visitation is Tuesday, July 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the funeral to immediately follow at Calvary Baptist Church at 150 East High Street in downtown Lexington.

Donald Webb was the co-founder of The Webb Companies.

Along with his brother, Dudley, he led the development of many of Lexington's major building projects, particularly downtown. 

Some of the projects included Victorian Square, Festival Market, The Financial Center, World Trade Center, The Woodlands, Lexington Green, and the Palomar Centre.

Donald Webb was also a civic leader.

He served as chairman of Commerce Lexington and the Fayette County Democratic Party.  He was the Kentucky chairman of the American Cancer Society.

Over the years he served on numerous boards and commissions.

Webb was a Hazard native who graduated from Whitesburg High School, Georgetown College and the University of Kentucky College of Law.

At the time of his death, Webb was retired and living with his wife in Vero Beach, Florida.  He still maintained a residence in Lexington.  He was in Lexington at the time of his death.
