Lexington Boy Needs Second Kidney Transplant

Lexington Boy Needs Second Kidney Transplant

Fifteen year-old Braxton Upthegrove's first transplant is failing, and is at the top of UK Hospital's donor list.
Fifteen year-old Braxton Upthegrove will need a second kidney transplant to replace the one he was given when he was six.

Upthegrove underwent complications during his birth that left him without air for 12 minutes. He survived the birth but his kidney eventually needed to be replaced.

The kidney he received from his father nine years ago is failing and now he's back on dialysis every day for ten hours at night.

He is currently at the top of UK Hospital's donor list, but even if he gets the kidney, rejection chances go up a second time.

Still Braxton remains up-beat, which his mother Michelle says has inspired her as a OB-GYN nurse. She became a nurse to better understand how to help her son.
