Lexing Takes Part in World Aids Day

The local Health Department offered free HIV testing on Saturday along with a special presentation in Downtown Lexington.
Lexington joined in the rest of the country to recognize World Aids Day on Saturday.

The health department offered free h-i-v testing today in recognition.

A department spokesperson says one person is diagnosed with HIV in Kentucky every day, and that millions of people worldwide are affected by aids each year.

On Saturday the health department hosted an event at the downtown Lexington Public Library to "reflect, remember and celebrate" people who have died from the disease.

They say HIV is 100 percent preventable  and encourage people to get tested.

The Health Department adds that everyone can help fight aids just by raising their awareness of the disease and knowing their own health status.
