The Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross said they sent six volunteers to Sandy-affected states...and they expect to send more.

Of the six volunteers, said officials, two went to New York, one went to New Jersey, and three went to West Virginia to wait for Sandy's landfall.

The Bluegrass Chapter got word Monday night that three hundred more volunteers were needed to man the 112 shelters open in nine states.

"Right now, we're actually on the phone recruiting some of our other disaster workers to leave.. Possibly as early as Tuesday morning," said Winn Stephens, director of development for the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Red Cross officials said over three thousand people were using the shelters as of Monday night, and many more are expected.
