State Police said Betty Fields, 66, of Letcher County, died in a house fire early Thursday morning.

Investigators said a neighbor reported the fire just after 7:00 a.m., on Down Hill Drive in the Mayking community.

State Police said the Mayking Volunteer Fire Department arrived within minutes of the call, but it was too late to save Fields.

She was found in the bedroom of the home.  She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner.

State Police said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but that no foul play was suspected.
