Legislation Introduced To Increase School Safety

Representative Richard Henderson introduced legislation Tuesday that would lay out new standards for schools to follow.
A Kentucky lawmaker says an emergency plan similar to fire or tornado drill could help make schools safer.

Representative Richard Henderson represents Montgomery, Powell and part of Wolfe counties. As part of his plan, he wants parents of kids with mental or emotional conditions to contact the school if their child could put others in danger.

"This bill is a common-sense approach that I think will go a long way to improving current safety plans, and do it in a way that if cost-effective as well," said Rep. Henderson.

Henderson calls it a low budget approach to safety. He also says school designs should be looked at to see if other safety measures could be added.
