The Laurel County Sheriff says a fight left a deputy hurt.

The Sheriff's Office says Deputy Kirk Mays stopped a vehicle Tuesday morning on Laurel River Church Road and found a bottle with 2 kinds of pills in it.

Mays arrested both people in the vehicle.

He says one of them, Randall Hayes, started hitting him, and eventually broke Mays' glasses.

So Hayes now faces assault charges, in addition to charges related to the pills.

A woman, Jinna Moore, faces drug-related charges.
