The Laurel County Sheriff's Office has new body armor for its officers. They are only the third agency in the state to have this latest type of vest.
The Laurel County Sheriff's Office purchased new KDH body armor vests for all of its uniformed officers.

The department is only the 3rd in the state to get this type of vest, also used by the Los Angeles Police Department.

The vests cost a total of $14,500, but didn't cost tax payers.

The money came from drug forfeitures and by 4 private donors.

The new armor is lighter, cooler, thinner, and has better ballistic material inside.
