LONDON, Ky. - The Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy is investigating a two vehicle crash which occurred on Kentucky 770 , 15 miles south of London on Thursday evening.

Apparently a GMC Sierra pickup was west bound on KY 770 when its driver lost control and traveled into the eastbound lane hitting a Chrysler 300 car head on. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane. One person was injured in the pickup, and five persons were seriously injured in the car.  All the victims were taken by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and Whitley County Ambulance to Corbin Health Care Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the pickup is identified as: Ruth A. Marcum age 39 of Verbena Drive, Corbin. She was treated for her injuries and later released from the hospital.

The driver of the car; Danny E. Barnett age 63 of Corbin, with passengers Marsha Barnett age 64, Becky Barnett age 40, Jeffery Barnett age 44, and a 12 year old male were all from Corbin.  Each received very serious injuries, and were admitted to Corbin hospital,  The 12 year old was later  transferred to UK hospital in Lexington.

Following an investigation, Marcum was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the influence Of Drugs, and Prescription Controlled Substances Not in Proper Container. 

Those charges were upgraded today to 5 counts of Assault 1st degree regarding her being arrested for DUI in a crash that seriously injured a family of 5 . She was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Facility.
