Part of New Circle Road was closed early Friday morning following a fatal accident.

Lexington police said a Austin Armstrong, a 2011 graduate of Lafayette High School,  was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after wrecking his motorcycle just after 2 a.m. on New Circle Road between Harrodsburg Road and Versailles Road.

He later died from his injuries.

Police said the motorcyclist appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed when his bike went off the road.

They said he was thrown several feet and his helmet came off before he hit the ground.

The roadway closed while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated.

Just a few weeks ago, another Lafayette graduate died in a car wreck. Amanda Hounshell graduated in 2010, and was a cheerleader there. Police say Hounshell was speeding as she was trying to exit her vehicle New Circle onto Nicholasville Road.  The car flipped, and she was thrown from the vehicle. Hounshell was not wearing a seat belt.
