Employees of Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities are giving $1.6 million dollars to 27 Kentucky charities.

In a joint statement, the companies says it's the fifth year in a row that workers' donations have topped the million-dollar mark. A spokesman says 70 percent of workers are taking part.

The money will go to nonprofit agencies that help Kentucky families.
