Knox County Congregation Worships In Garage

A flood destroyed the original Jeff's Creek Baptist Church.
The parishioners of Jeff's Creek Baptist Church are worshiping in a garage a half-mile down the road from where the original church used to stand.

Three weeks ago the 'old' Jeff's Creek Baptist Church was destroyed in a flood by the river that bares its name.

A week ago a local farmer donated his machine shop to the congregation putting in pews, a stand, an organ and a space heater, while covering his equipment and door with tarps.

Pastor A.Y. Mills says they hope to only have to call the garage 'home' for a couple months while the new church is built.

He says the church will still be on the same ground where the old one stood, only a little taller and a little farther away from the creek.

Mills says they did not have insurance on the building and are looking for any kind of donations.

He says the Church has set up a fund at the Forcht Bank in Barbourville, under the name; Jeff's Creek Baptist church.

Pastor Mills says you can also contact him at 606-542-4540
