A group that buys land to help protect the state's natural areas now owns almost 1600 acres in Whitley County.

The "Kentucky Natural Lands Trust" bought the land in the Laurel Fork area of Pine Mountain.

Directors say the project connects to other large conservation tracts in Tennessee.

The group also says the property supports several rare and endangered species of aquatic life.
