The Office of Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says his chief of staff has died.

According to spokeswoman Kerri Richardson, Mike Haydon passed away Sunday. The cause of death is uncertain.

Haydon became Beshear’s chief of staff in 2010. Before that, Haydon served as Beshear’s legislative director. Haydon was also once the mayor of Springfield.

Jeff Hoover, the House Minority Floor Leader, told the Lexington Herald-Leader that Haydon was a "very good friend" and will be missed.
