George Molton started singing country music when he was 11-years-old.

“Willie Nelson was one of the guys that I really liked back in the day,” Molton said. “And I’d actually go around and hold my nose and sing like Willie.”

The Kentucky native doesn’t just sing and play guitar, but he also writes his own music.

“I try not to put myself in a box to write just what I like to write,” he said. “I try to write not only for myself but for other people as well.”

Molton says one of his greatest successes was when Montgomery Gentry recorded one of the songs he wrote in the early 2000’s.

“The ups are really up, but the downs are super low. And I mean they come one right after the other,” Molton said. “You get a call one day and it's the best news you've ever heard, but then the next in the next two hours you get a call and it takes you right back down to the bottom.”

Hank Rose plays next to Molton in the band 90 Proof.

“I really feel that he sort of fights for the true country music,” Rose said. “I think George has got a real good shot at doing something. He's been very close many times. And it seems like something – things just didn't line up.”

While Molton dreams of making it one day, he says country music is about making a difference in other people’s lives at any level.

Molton said, “It's more about me walking off this stage and somebody sitting over in the corner stopping me and saying, ‘Hey man, you know that song. That's me. That's my life and you just hit it.'”
