Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington has stopped doing pediatric cardiothoracic surgeries pending an internal review, according to University of Kentucky spokesman Jay Blanton.
The school would not say why or the exact nature of the internal review.
Blanton did say Dr. Mark Plunkett is no longer performing surgeries, but would not say why. Plunkett is UK's chief of cardiothoracic surgery.
Blanton said Plunkett is still performing other medical duties at UK.
Blanton said for the time being, patients in need of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery are being referred to other hospitals.
Blanton said he knew of no specific timetable for the internal review.
