People in Lexington kicked off the new year today, but it wasn't because they were late to the party.

They were celebrating the beginning of the Chinese year of the snake.

Mayor Jim Gray was one of the masters of ceremony for the 8th annual celebration.

Wei Lou, president of the Kentucky Chinese American Association says the event is good for promoting Chinese culture and preserving tradition.
